Before Milk Stork, traveling for work meant breastfeeding moms had to wean or pump and dump.
2014: Kate exclusively breastfeeds her 7-month-old twins
Kate Torgersen, soon-to-be Milk Stork founder and CEO, was exclusively breastfeeding her 7-month-old twins when she faced a tough choice before a 4-day work trip: give them formula, find a way to ship milk home, or cancel the trip.
2014: Kate Takes Her First Solo Work Trip
She pumped relentlessly prior to the trip to create 2 extra gallons of breast milk to ensure that her babies would have enough to eat while she was away. During the trip, she pumped every 3 hours—day and night—to maintain her breast milk supply. She lugged 2 heavy, leaky gallons of breast milk home, using DIY ways to keep it cold on the plane, and enduring a lengthy inspection at airport security.
2015: Milk Stork Launches and A New Industry Is Born
In August 2015, Kate and her father, Silicon Valley veteran Mike Torgersen, officially launched Milk Stork. In doing so, they created the breast milk shipping industry.
